Chairman Robert Schostak

Secchia-Weiser Michigan Republican Center

Lansing, MI 48933

Dear Chairman Schostak,

The Newaygo County Michigan Republican Committee, on hearing of the firestorm brewing against our National Committeman Dave Agema regarding his stance in support of traditional marriage and against other unions, prepared the attached resolution in his support.  By sending this to you, it is our desire to communicate our own stance in support of traditional marriage and against other unions, and our support for our National Committeeman.  In addition, we hope to encourage you in the same position as expressed in our party platform.  Whether or not the political winds are against us, we hold this to be a moral issue where compromise is no virtue but rather a path that can lead only to decline both for individuals directly involved and for our country as a whole.

We feel that it is, in fact, our differences with the Democratic Party that make our candidates worthy of support.  Not that we value differences for the sake of disagreement, of course – but rather that we know what we believe, we know why we believe it, and the truth carries weight such that we feel it is only reasonable to convince others to agree with us!

Sincerely,

Recording Secretary,

Newaygo County Republican Committee

Condensed Resolution for Newspaper

The members of the Newaygo County Republican Committee hereby express their support for our duly elected National Committeeman Dave Agema and his support for traditional marriage and the family. Support for traditional marriage is stated eloquently in the 2012 Republican Party Platform, and affirmed by federal law and our own state Constitution. Only in the marriage of one man and one woman for life do we see the family structure that is inherently healthy and satisfying for the participants, and for their children, and for our country. As millions of single parents struggle to raise children alone as they suffer the results of failed relationships, we stand with National Committeeman Dave Agema in pointing our young people to a kinder, and nobler future.

Draft Resolution Supporting National Committeeman Dave Agema

The members of the Newaygo County Republican Committee hereby express their support for our duly elected National Committeeman Dave Agema and his support for traditional marriage and the family. Support for traditional marriage is stated eloquently in the 2012 Republican Party Platform, is found in federal law in the Defense of Marriage Act duly enacted by Congress and signed by President Clinton, and is again affirmed in the Constitution of the State of Michigan in Article 1, Section 25 in the following words:

To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for our society and for future generations of children, the union of one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as a marriage or similar union for any purpose.

There can scarcely be a greater insult to women than the audacious claim that two men are as well suited to raising a family as a man and his wife. Likewise, there can scarcely be a greater insult to men than the unreasoning claim that two women are as well suited to raising a family as a woman and her husband. We recognize few family tragedies more heartbreaking than divorce, and few actions more objectifying to women than the unsatisfied desires of a polygamist man.
