Freedom Of Speech

By |January 28th, 2014|

First Amendment: Freedom Of Speech
Have you ever noticed that the opposition to free speech and the labeling of “discrimination” consistently comes from those who want to silence our voices so that their voices and their agenda are the only ones to be heard?  They want the exclusive right to the public forum—the exclusive right to speak and to be heard.  So, their “push for tolerance” results in the “intolerance” of our views.  Their position is the only acceptable position.

So, this raises the question:  How do freedom of speech and political correctness interface?  Let’s explore that question by beginning with a brief history lesson.

The Founding Fathers came from countries on the other side of the ocean where freedom of speech was only for the rich and powerful.  Believing that every person had value and dignity, they wanted to directly address the issue of freedom of speech in the United States Constitution.  They believed that people needed to be able to freely share their ideas and views so they would be citizens rather than subjects.  In the First Amendment to the Constitution, the Founders wrote:
“Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech….”
In other words, every person is entitled to his opinions, perspectives, and ideas.

To begin to explore the relationship between freedom of speech and political correctness, permit me to ask a hypothetical question.  If a particular group or groups in this country wished to undermine and ultimately remove the right to free speech–and perhaps remove the Constitution itself–what would be an effective approach?

Knowing that Americans value equality and fairness, could those values be turned on their heads and be sold as “political correctness?”  That is, in order to be fair to everyone, every opinion, perspective, goal, and lifestyle should be equal.  Never mind if that opinion, perspective, goal, or lifestyle were destructive to […]

Why people support Dave Agema

By |January 27th, 2014|

They want Republicans to speak with a clear voice, as Agema has done.

“The Republicans are not really standing for anything anymore,” said Tomas Ojeda, a former U.S. Marine. “Nothing on immigration, nothing on pro-life and, as you can see, now they can’t say anything about homosexuality.

“If you’re going to go into politics and you can’t articulate your position, that’s like a Marine that can’t shoot. Those are your bullets.”

Mark Petzold was there “standing up for what’s right and what’s good,” he said.

“I know the man and I know his character. Without any problem I’ll stand next to him,” said Petzold, president of River City Patriots and the Sons of Liberty Riders. “We need more people like him because our country’s problem is not political, it’s spiritual. We’re in the midst of spiritual warfare and so somebody like him that’s standing on principle is a way of helping to bring about that (spiritual) awakening because even in spite of the controversy (over Agema’s remarks) the discussion is happening.

As an American proud of our Country, my faith and convictions, and the core values and principles that have contributed directly to our unrivaled international role as champions of freedom, prosperity and hope- I have made comments considered by some, to be insensitive, inflammatory, and inaccurate.

In retrospect, I acknowledge errors in judgment and how I addressed them, feel badly about the impact this has had on many here in the land I love, and have learned valuable lessons about the requirements and responsibilities that are to be expected and honored by all who are in leadership positions- including myself.

I have become increasingly frustrated and concerned by continuous attacks on religion in general, and Christians in particular, by the Democrat Party, the Obama Administration, and others.

I openly posed a question aimed at shedding light on that subject.  I readily acknowledge my mistake, appreciate the charitable efforts of Muslim Americans, and offer my sincerest apology for reposting an article that has been re-quoted as my words. I stand with peaceful Muslims who share my concern with radicalism and look forward to continuing to work with people of all faiths that uphold American values.

As an American who has spent his entire life remaining faithful to his religion, his family, and his country, I have been unwilling to compromise my principles, traditional values or support for the Word of God.

My personal beliefs and public statements expressing them as a public figure, has been attacked by a few strident advocates for homosexual marriage seeking to change Republican, Michigan and America’s mores and laws. Despite our American heritage of the right to speak freely- or perhaps because of it, my personal views on the sanctity of marriage have led to loud […]

Some interesting and thought provoking statistics:

The US only exports 10% of its goods created – 1.2% to Europe, 1.2% to Brazil, Russia, India,

and China, and 7.6% to Canada and Mexico.

• The US makes up 19% of the worlds economy

• The Euro block (the UK and Europe) makes up 16% of the worlds economy.

• China’s economy is only 1/2 the size of the US.

Federal liabilities have dramatically increased since 2008; however, so have reserves, because

people were paying off debt and banks can’t find people to lend to.

• (SHOW THIS TO YOUR KIDS) unemployment rates for people with:

1. Less than a high school education= 11.3%

2. With high school:= 7.6%

3. Some college= 6.1%

4. College degree= 3.5%

• The historic unemployment rate of America is about 6.1% (higher now)

• Working hours of Americans have decreased due to ObamaCare.

Interest rates are 0% on Federal funds but are expected to go up to 4% somewhere between

2015-2016, meaning house loans would increase to about 8%. Buy now!

• Canada is threatening to build their pipeline to Vancouver if we don’t allow the pipeline

to be built to across America to Texas (Obama strikes again).

• Mexico is now allowing private enterprise to drill for its gas and oil reserves, which are

greater than the US or Venezuela. They are changing their constitution to allow it.

• Texas is the number 1 energy producer in the US

• North Dakota is number 2 in energy production in the US

• Michigan has huge potential for natural gas production if tapped.

The multiplier effect of money is how many times a dollar is spent in a year’s time. Since 2008,

people started to pay off more debt and not spending as much. Normally the multiplier is 8×, but

now it’s 3×, so money is not […]

READY ROOM – What is a ready room?

By |December 25th, 2013|

A ready room is the location where on-duty pilots “stand by” their airplanes.  Each flight squadron has its own designated ready room where they can talk and prepare for the upcoming flight. – Wikipedia

On this website, we have a ready room.  You are invited to join Dave Agema—retired fighter pilot, three-term Michigan State Representative, and current State Representative to the Republican National Committee—for a once-a-month live stream conversation.  Stay tuned for the schedule of live chats.
