February 24 Newsletter

By |April 1st, 2014|

In the last newsletter I gave the recent rule changes and resolutions adopted at the RNC winter meeting. Since that newsletter, Ronna Romney McDaniel was elected as our new National Committeewoman at the State Committee meeting back on February 15th. Congratulations, Ronna, and welcome to the RNC; I’m looking forward to serving with you over the next two years.

The State Committee meetings for the rest of the year are as follows:

May 2-3: Shanty Creek Resort near Traverse City
August 22-23: Novi
Dec 12-13: To be determined

Committee chairs:

Budget: Bill Runco (313-278-6160 / 313-565-3833)
Grassroots: Kim MacMaster (231-360-0636)
Issues: Stan Grot (586-677-2002 / 586-453-5988)
Coalitions: Megan Buwalda (269-760-6618)
Policy: Theresa Mungioli (248-225-2864)
Election Day Operations: Susan Chmielewski (734-946-7931 / 734-787-1379)
Technology: Russ Spencer (810-629-6687)

GREAT numbers of people (225,000 and counting) are losing their health insurance in Michigan due to ObamaCare. Most pay more for less under this fiasco. This is a huge wedge issue that even democrats are running from.

Our party’s values and platform are far superior to the democrats. If we stay on platform and stay on message, we will win every time. If you don’t know what they are, then read them so we are all on the same page. (I have been surprised by how many people don’t know what they are.) There’s a reason that I pushed for the passage of my Core Values Resolution at an earlier RNC meeting.

We must win by working with people who SUPPORT our platform and values. A house divided cannot stand, but in honest unity all things are possible. We need unity not just within the GOP, but with the Republican Women’s Federation, the Tea Party, the Campaign for Liberty, the College Republicans, iCaucus, veterans’ organizations, etc., because we need them to win. Without their […]

There were some rules changes at the RNC Winter Meeting back in January, which can be summarized thus (a longer description is below):

Allowing the convention to start earlier (mid-July instead of late August)
Imposing some form of proportional delegate allocation for any contests held before March 15th, with the provision that a state may set a minimum threshold (not higher than 20%) below which a candidate may receive no delegates, and with a provision allowing proportional states to be winner-take-all if a candidate receives an absolute majority (50% or greater).  Any state violating this rule is penalized 50% of their delegation (discarding all fractions).
Allowing only the four “carve out” primary states (Iowa, Hew Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada) to hold their primaries in February; everyone else cannot start before March 1st.  If a state tries to jump in early, then their delegates will be limited to 9, if they have 30 or more delegates, or 6, if they have 29 or less.  (This could potentially harm Michigan, as MCL Section 168.641 requires us to conduct our presidential primary either on “the fourth Tuesday in February,” or on “the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May.”)
All delegates and alternate delegates shall be elected or selected not later than forty-five (45) days before the date of the meeting of the national convention (changed from the previous rule, which had a cutoff of 35 days prior to convention.  There are some states that by law require delegates to be chosen after that date, and there is a waiver provision for those states.
Since the nominee will be selected earlier, there was also a move to limit the amount of debates as well as debate moderation by liberal media moderators.

According […]

Some interesting and thought provoking statistics:

The US only exports 10% of its goods created – 1.2% to Europe, 1.2% to Brazil, Russia, India,

and China, and 7.6% to Canada and Mexico.

• The US makes up 19% of the worlds economy

• The Euro block (the UK and Europe) makes up 16% of the worlds economy.

• China’s economy is only 1/2 the size of the US.

Federal liabilities have dramatically increased since 2008; however, so have reserves, because

people were paying off debt and banks can’t find people to lend to.

• (SHOW THIS TO YOUR KIDS) unemployment rates for people with:

1. Less than a high school education= 11.3%

2. With high school:= 7.6%

3. Some college= 6.1%

4. College degree= 3.5%

• The historic unemployment rate of America is about 6.1% (higher now)

• Working hours of Americans have decreased due to ObamaCare.

Interest rates are 0% on Federal funds but are expected to go up to 4% somewhere between

2015-2016, meaning house loans would increase to about 8%. Buy now!

• Canada is threatening to build their pipeline to Vancouver if we don’t allow the pipeline

to be built to across America to Texas (Obama strikes again).

• Mexico is now allowing private enterprise to drill for its gas and oil reserves, which are

greater than the US or Venezuela. They are changing their constitution to allow it.

• Texas is the number 1 energy producer in the US

• North Dakota is number 2 in energy production in the US

• Michigan has huge potential for natural gas production if tapped.

The multiplier effect of money is how many times a dollar is spent in a year’s time. Since 2008,

people started to pay off more debt and not spending as much. Normally the multiplier is 8×, but

now it’s 3×, so money is not […]

I’d like to start with a couple of videos that do a really great job of capturing the spirit of the season:
The USAF Band Holiday Flash Mob at the National Air and Space Museum 2013

“A Hallelujah Christmas” by Cloverton

I remember sitting in an unheated quonset hut in Korea on Christmas Day 1976 on a remote tour without my family, watching an outdated movie in my Mickey Mouse boots, long underwear, and parka, wondering what my family was doing and how I missed them all.  When I arrived home a year later my 15 month old daughter didn’t recognize me.  Please remember the troops that serve at the whim of a civilian politician.  Never send them to war unless you’ll let them fight to win with everything at their disposal, or don’t send them at all.  They give up a lot at this time of year.  Please reach out to their families here and let them know you care.  There are only two people that died for you, Jesus for your soul and the American soldier for your freedom.  May we never forget!  Let us stand on the principles that made this country great.

As you celebrate Christmas remember this:  II Corinthians 9:15 (NLT) “Thank God for his Son – a gift too wonderful for words.”  Romans 15:13 (ESV) “May the God of hope fill you with all JOY AND PEACE in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in Hope.”  In a world that seems hopeless, our hope is in God and His principles, not that of man.  As you celebrate with family and friends, give thanks to God, who blessed this country more than any other because we […]

Before I get started, I’d like to show you the video below, which is, I think, the best deconstruction of the ObamaCare disaster that I’ve yet to see (and it’s pretty thorough).  Even if you don’t read any further, please watch this video:

Oh, and just so we’re clear, even though they’ve done their very best to hide this truth from public view, anyone who registers on healthcare.gov shouldn’t be under any illusion that their private data is protected from public view:

[youtube_sc url=”http://youtu.be/uOk0vOup4yA”]

As we approach the Christmas season, let us continue in the hope our forefathers had for a better America.  Christmas has always been a time of family and commitment to our God, who blesses a nation that honors Him.

Yes, we have seen much destruction of America as the result of men seeking power and money, yet we are the most blessed nation in the world, because throughout our nation’s history men and women have stood up against tyranny, persecution, and liberalism for the sake of freedom.  I doubt whether there has ever been a better time to get involved in politics than now.  All that’s necessary is to keep on keeping on.  Perseverance wins.  Giving up doesn’t.

It seems everywhere in the political realm I look, I see the Judeo Christian ethic under attack.  These principles were the ones our founding fathers used to formulate our Constitution.  They work.  Many of our founding fathers had divinity degrees.  All put their lives on the line when our Declaration of Independence was formed.  We should do no less for the benefit of those that follow us.

We are under attack by the democrat machine.  They seek to expose any division they can find within the GOP.  That is […]

People are so busy making a living, most are ill-informed concerning those making political decisions for them.  In a sense, they have become worker bees for the state – too busy at their tasks to see the forest fire coming their way.  Many times their elected officials have let them down, but the people are unaware.

When people are informed concerning the bad management of the Obama administration, some within the party say you can’t just complain, do something.  When I tell them how to get good people that are fiscal, moral, and constitutional conservatives elected, they balk and say we must be more inclusive.  Folks, compromise with evil has gotten us into this mess.  “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country” (Charles E. Weller) or you won’t have a country or state with freedom and prosperity.

I know from my stint in Lansing that those elected by their peers as leaders in the House and Senate often want followers – it makes their agendas easier, but it takes away from the purpose of elected officials – to represent the people.  To blindly follow leads to mini-dictatorships who have garnered power with promises and money.  True leaders think for themselves, analyze, and act on the best interests of their constituents.  A good leader surrounds himself with people that will tell him what he needs to know, not what he wants to hear.  Elect such leaders.

You Can’t Make Up The 1.5 Trillion By Taxing The Rich

The annual federal deficit is running about 1.5 trillion dollars.  Personal income tax receipts are about 900 billion, corporate about 200 billion, for a total in income tax receipts of about $1.1 trillion.  To […]

“The America that has flourished for more than two centuries, is being quietly but steadily dismantled by the Obama Administration.” – Dr. Thomas Sowell

The ACA (Affordable Care Act) is not affordable.  The statistics from nearly all the states show it’s more expensive.  Socialized medicine always turns into rationed healthcare, at a higher cost with longer waiting lines.  As an example of inept government solutions, let’s look at what we did with poverty – the same will happen with healthcare.

The war on poverty by our government has been going on for decades and has not helped.  Just in the last five years Obama has spent $3.7 trillion on welfare, plus the states have spent another $200 billion, and we have more poverty than ever, because it’s a hand out.  Compare the $3.7 trillion with the $797 billion spent in total on education, TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families), NASA, and SNAP (food assistance).  The CATO Institute discovered that expenditures on Medicaid, TANF, and SNAP in Hawaii averaged $49,000 per welfare household, and in the District of Columbia $43,000.  Expect the same costs and inefficiencies to occur in ObamaCare.  A competitive civilian market always produces more at a cheaper price – it’s called capitalism, and yes, profit is a good thing.  Government always operates at a loss.

The original cost of ObamaCare was $900 billion; it’s now $2.7 trillion and rising.
He said you could keep your present healthcare – he lied.
He said it would be $2500 cheaper – he lied.
He said the government shut down would cause us to default on our debt – he lied; even Greenspan said that was not true.

Also consider the lies with Benghazi, NSA, IRS, military generals being fired, etc.  All these should […]

“Let’s say somebody were and they wanted to destroy this nation.  I would create division among the people, encourage a culture of ridicule for basic morality and the principles that made and sustained this country, undermine the financial stability of the nation, and weaken and destroy the military.  It appears coincidentally that those are the very things that are happening right now.” – Dr. Ben Carson

Now that we’ve all watched the media’s feeding frenzy concerning the shutdown and the impending doom of America, we all must be made aware that the deal to “avert default” and reopen the government is simply a Band-Aid on a huge wound that’s going to start bleeding once again in a few months.  Nothing was settled.  ObamaCare goes forward.  The IRS has the authority to keep spending if Congress and the President can’t solve their differences . . . and they won’t.  If they do, it will once again be more future debt, causing a bigger crash down the road.

China is already making plans to make their currency the international standard, because of our debt and printing of our dollars ($1 trillion a year) with nothing backing them other than the “full faith and credit” of the U. S. Government.  If that happens, our standard of living will change for the worse – rapidly – and it’ll be due to our government’s inability to stop spending money they don’t have.  It’s like a kid with an allowance that keeps borrowing from his buddies with no way to pay it back with his limited money.

Whatever happened to the Republican philosophy of shrinking government?  The largest growth of government spending is “entitlements” (I hate the term), and they […]

I’m always amazed at how gullible the masses are concerning the news media.  83% of the government was still working while 17% weren’t.  I suspect there is a greater percentage yet that is NOT essential.  To have all these employees of the government, who didn’t work during the shutdown, get their back pay is unconscionable.  This will make not working during the shutdown amount to a paid vacation – I have issues with this.  Civilian employers don’t do that, neither should the government.  But they’re special, and I’m sure we will never see what that unnecessary cost was.

The only way government will stop growing and spending is to turn off the money hose.  Just freezing the budget would do wonders in a few short years.  Truly government has only one propensity, and that is to grow in size and expenditure until too many are government workers and too few are supporting them.  When this continues too long, we end out exactly like Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain (the PIGS).  Surely we are nearly there.  I anticipate higher interest rates and inflation, caused by the government’s printing of money to the tune of $1 trillion a year with nothing to back it up but the faith the American people have in it.

We should have been ahead of the news game, by explaining to the people that the House has the power of the purse, not the Senate or the President.  We should have explained beforehand that the President is the one who by his veto power shuts down the government, not the House or the republicans.  This was all very predictable.  We should have said it, printed it, emailed it, and hammered home what was about […]

I’ve always said you that can tell where a person is going based on where they’ve been.  President Obama was raised by his mother primarily; however, his real father was a Muslim communist.  Likewise, his step father was also.  He was educated in Indonesia at a Muslim school and came to America on a foreign student visa.  As a result of his experiences he pushes us towards socialism.  He views that one person’s poverty is because of another’s success and wealth.

I’ll give the president this much credit:  Yes, the current federal government shutdown was totally preventable.  The democrats, and their media lapdogs, want you to believe that the federal shutdown (that began at around 1:00 a.m. yesterday) is the fault of the obstructionist republicans.  The reality, that you’ll never hear the president mention, is that the shutdown is the direct responsibility of the Senate Democrats and President Obama refusing to negotiate with the House Republicans regarding a basic constitutional responsibility.  If there’s an upside to this mess, it’s that we’re getting a first-hand demonstration of which federal departments, bureaus, agencies, and offices are truly a waste of the taxpayers’ monies.  My take is that the obviously non-essential functions of the federal government need to stay shut down, their staffs pink-slipped, their budgets zeroed-out, and their cabinet appointments pulled . . . and leave them that way.

America was not built on socialism.  It was built as a republic by men who fell to their knees in prayer to God (not Allah) and gave us the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  These two documents were formulated to prevent the very thing that’s happening today in America.  And while you’re at it, remember that the democrats are […]
